Message From the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director

Friends and Members,

Thank you for visiting the Ken Griffey Sr. Foundation website and for your interest and support of our worthwhile campaign. We know that with your help and contributions, we can improve the lives of America’s youth today that will lead to a successful tomorrow.

For many children and at-risk youth, they do not have the opportunities available in order to reach their full potential—in school or in life. Combining your generosity and our leadership organization, together we can encourage and provide for thousands of youth who depend on the vital services and professional help that they could not obtain by themselves. All children of different ages, including at-risk youth, disabled and handicapped children, and kids who face unexpected difficulties, will benefit from our consorted efforts.

Our Leadership Giving Campaign is managed by Executive Director Derrick Hutton, and we are thankful to him for all of his work and dedication. I wholeheartedly support the foundation’s campaign efforts, and I feel the greatest reward is making a difference in the lives of our disadvantaged youth and reaching out to those who are in need.

In addition, the Ken Griffey Sr. Foundation has recently joined efforts with the National Prostate Cancer Coalition (NPCC) to raise awareness about prostate cancer. As some of you may know, I have recently endured and won a battle with prostate cancer. I feel fortunate and blessed to have had family and friends around me during that time and now know the importance of receiving a regularly scheduled health checkup.

Selected as an honorary national chairman for the NPCC and using my experience of fighting prostate cancer, I want to help encourage men ages 50 and older to get tested early and periodically and to ask for charitable contributions for further research. Let us work together to increase understanding and raise the required resources in order to ultimately put an end to prostate cancer.

I thank everyone for your compassion, leadership, and consideration in joining me in these worthwhile efforts.

Sincerely,

Ken Griffey Sr.

Chief Executive Officer

Greetings,

As the executive director of the Ken Griffey Sr. Foundation, I would first like to extend my appreciation to all of the individuals, charitable groups, and sponsors who work with us to help raise funds and support our philanthropic endeavors. Together we have accomplished great labors, and our hope is to achieve many more.

The Ken Griffey Sr. Foundation’s purpose is two-fold: to help at-risk youth and other disadvantaged kids receive the necessities of life and to raise awareness and intensify research of prostate cancer—all with your charitable contributions and generous support.

Many youth are confronted with challenges and circumstances that don’t allow them to have favorable opportunities to succeed. With our help and your gracious contributions, together we can open doors for these children and provide the essentials to live and the opportunities to grow.

Likewise, providing a higher awareness throughout the nation of the importance for testing for prostate cancer—as well as the research to help find a solution—is of the utmost concern. Fortunately, Ken Griffey Sr. was able to have his prostate cancer detected at an early stage where he was able to have it treated and continue on with his life. Others may not be as privileged. Please join together with us to inform people about this disease and to amass the needed funds to help promote research.

We are grateful for having the strength of the community and each of the contributors to the Ken Griffey Sr. Foundation. I know that together we can accomplish miracles in the lives of countless individuals. Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Derrick Hutton

Executive Director
